Privacy, in plain English
Players never make an account or give us an email address. We collect as little as we can to run the game, and we never sell anything about you.
Updated 6 November 2026
• Players join with a name of their choice. No account, no email address, no phone number.
• Your private results are cleared from your phone when you leave the game.
• We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
• If you register interest in a plan, we use your email only to tell you about that plan.
Who we are
InstaQuiz is a trading name of Eelavan Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 09892770), registered office 86-90 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NE. We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact us at hello@instaquiz.app.
If you play
When you join a game, your browser signs in anonymously so the game knows which seat is yours. We store the name you type, your answers, your wager and your score, linked to that anonymous sign-in and to the game.
Other players see your name. Only you see your own answers and score until the podium, when the top places are shown to everyone.
We use this to run the game, and our lawful basis is legitimate interests: you have asked to play.
If you host
We store the games you set up: the pack, rounds and settings, and the game’s progress, linked to your anonymous sign-in.
When the party pass goes on sale, hosts who buy one will sign in with an email address. We will use it to sign you in, send your receipt and, only if you tick the box, tell you about new packs. Payments will be handled by Stripe; we never see your card details. We will update this notice before that starts.
If you register interest
For “Your own quiz” or the pubs and venues plan we store your name, email address, the occasion or venue and, for venues, the town. We use them only to tell you about that plan, and our lawful basis is your consent. Ask us to delete them at any time.
On your device
Your browser keeps a small amount of data in local storage: your anonymous sign-in, the last name you played under (so you don’t have to type it again) and your light or dark mode choice. These are needed for the game to work. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
Who else handles your data
Supabase (database and sign-in, hosted in Ireland), Vercel (website hosting) and Google Fonts (the site’s fonts, which means your browser asks Google’s servers for them). From the party pass launch: Stripe (payments) and Resend (emails). Each acts on our behalf under a data processing agreement. Some are US companies, and transfers rely on the UK’s adequacy rules or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
Game data is kept only as long as we need it to run games and fix problems, and we will set out exact deletion periods here before launch. Register-interest details are kept until the plan opens and we have told you, or until you ask us to delete them.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, object to how we use it or withdraw consent. Email hello@instaquiz.app. Because players are anonymous, tell us the game code and the name you used so we can find you. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
InstaQuiz is a party game that families play together. Players under 13 should play with an adult who is hosting. We don’t knowingly collect any contact details from children.
