The best party quiz apps in the UK, compared
Eleven apps for running a quiz where everyone answers on their phone: at home, at a wedding, at the office party or in the pub. What each one costs, what players have to install and who it suits best.

All 11 at a glance
How we compared them
We looked for apps that let one person host a quiz while a group answers on their own phones or on one shared device: the apps that come up when you ask Google or an AI assistant for a group quiz app, plus the main UK pub quiz systems.
Prices and limits come from each company’s own website or app store listing, linked under each app, and were checked on 6 November 2026. Several charge in dollars or euros, so the pound price moves with the exchange rate.
We judged each app on five things: what players must install, what the host needs, how many can play free, what it costs for one night and for a year, and whether the scores are shown during the game.
InstaQuiz makes this page, so read our entry with that in mind. We’ve tried to say plainly where another app is the better choice. If anything here is out of date, email hello@instaquiz.app and we’ll fix it.

How to choose
One night or every week?
For a one-off party, avoid monthly subscriptions: look for a free tier big enough for your group, or a one-off price. For a weekly quiz in a venue, a monthly or bulk plan works out cheaper per night.
Will everyone download an app?
At a wedding or office party, some people won’t. Apps that run in the phone’s browser (InstaQuiz, Kahoot!, QuizWitz, Jackbox, Quizado) get everyone in faster than ones that need a download.
What does the host need?
Some apps run from the host’s phone; others need a Windows PC, a Mac or a games console. Check before the night, not on it.
How many players?
Count phones, not people: teams of four sharing a phone cut the number a lot. Free tiers range from 4 phones to 20.
Do you want a live leaderboard?
A leaderboard after every question suits competitive groups. Hiding the scores until the end keeps people at the bottom playing and makes the finish a surprise.
Questions people ask
What is the best free quiz app for a party?
For a small group, Crafty Quiz (10 players, Windows host), Kahoot! (10 players) and InstaQuiz (8 players, host from a phone) all have free tiers. Sporcle Party is free with ads but everyone needs the app.
Which quiz apps don’t need players to download anything?
InstaQuiz, Kahoot!, QuizWitz, Jackbox, Quizado, AhaSlides and Crowdpurr all let players join in their phone’s web browser with a code.
Which quiz app is best for a pub quiz?
For a weekly pub quiz, SpeedQuizzing and Crafty Quiz are built for UK venues. Quizado is aimed at venues too, with monthly plans in euros.
Is there a quiz app without a subscription?
